This crochet farmhouse dishcloth pattern features a beautiful texture for your kitchen cleaning needs!
I have found dishcloths to be a relaxing smaller project, that makes trying out new stitches fun!
In this pattern, you will be crocheting using the half double crochet stitch and using the back loops, and front bottom loops.
Cotton VS Acrylic Yarn
What’s the difference in using cotton yarn or acrylic yarn for your dishcloth?
Cotton
Cotton is a natural fiber that comes from the cotton plant. It is also biodegradable. Due to its natural origin, cotton yarn is very durable and highly absorbent making it perfect for dishcloths and towels.
It is also heat resistant which means cotton yarn is also great for items like pot holders, table mats and coasters. This also means it is less insulating and might not be the best idea for cozy winter items intended for warmth.
Cotton yarn is widely available and comes in different weights and a variety of colors.
Acrylic
Acrylic yarn is a man-made synthetic fiber. It is not biodegradable but some brands are made from recycled materials if you’re looking for more sustainable options.
This synthetic fiber is very resilient and durable which has helped many crocheted items last longer.
It is fairly easy to care for when it comes to washing, however acrylic yarn can melt when exposed to high heat so it is best to be avoided for items like pot holders and coasters.
Acrylic yarn is affordable and easy to work with for beginners. It also comes in a variety of colors and different weights.
Choosing what yarn to use
It is honestly up to you for what yarn you want to use for your dishcloth.
There are pros and cons to using both for a dishcloth. I’ve researched and read people like dishcloths made is both materials for different reasons.
