A crochet towel holder (sometimes called towel toppers) are such a cute new way to hold your towel in place in your kitchen! Just put them over the bar on your oven, dishwasher or refrigerator and feed your towel through.
These crochet towel holders are also a great handmade gift! Simply pair them with a kitchen towel, and maybe a couple other kitchen items, and you’ve got yourself a beautiful and meaningful gift!
This free crochet pattern is a quick, easy make and also useful item in the kitchen to keep your towels from falling onto the floor.
Materials:
- 2.75 mm crochet hook
- Yarn or your choice, weight 3
- Wooden Ring 2.8″ outer diameter
- 2 small buttons
- yarn needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
SC- single crochet
SL ST- slip stitch
CH- chain
ST- stitch
YO- yarn over
Puff St- Puff stitch (yo insert hook, yo and draw up a loop, yo and insert hook, yo and draw up a loop, yo and insert hook, yo and draw up a loop, yo and pull through all loops in your hook)
Picot- picot stitch (ch 3, sl st in the second ch)
**- repeat between the symbols
Free Crochet Pattern
Foundation, row 1: sc 11 stitches onto the wooden ring, ch 1 and turn
Row 2: Sc in the second st, puff st into the same stitch. *skip 1 st, sc and puff st into the same st* repeat across finishing with a sc in the last st. ch 1 and turn
Note: your puff st will ‘puff’ away from you as you work the row.
Row 3-22: repeat row 2.
Note: If you need your towel holder needs to be a bigger size, continue repeating rows until you reach the size you need.
Row 23: Sc 11 across, ch 1 and turn
Row 24: 1 sc, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 5 sc, ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 sc. ch 1 and turn
Row 25: 11 Sc across (sc into ch sts)
Finish off and weave in ends. Continue on to border.
Picot Border
Connect your yarn to the right side closest to the wooden ring, with the first row of puff stitches facing away from you.
Work 1 SC in the same space you started, sl st into next spot and work a picot, sl st back into the same space.
Work a sc into the next space which should be next to a puff st facing you. (pic. below)
Sl st into the next space and work your picot, sl st back into same space.
Repeat along the side.
When you reach the corner, work 3 sc into the corner. Work across the top in the same manner. (there should be 5 picot sts in along the top)
work 3 sc into the next corner and work down the other side the same way ending with a sc.
Finish off and weave in your ends.
Sew on the buttons onto the third row, with puff st facing you.
And you’re all finished!
You can hang your crochet towel holder with buttons facing the back, or have them facing you.
